Pot rules

Last updated October 20, 2026

The short version: you put in your own stake. Hit your goal and you get it back. Miss it and it goes to charity. Won charges each member a flat $2.99 per pot. Nobody wins anyone else’s money.

1. Who can join

  • You must be 18 or older and live in the United States. Won isn’t available in some states yet; the app checks your state when you sign up.
  • One account per person.
  • Inside a pot, the other members see your display name and photo, whether you’ve paid, your progress toward the goal (for step and workout pots, that includes your daily step and workout counts and workout minutes on pot days, and whether any were entered by hand; for weight-loss pots, the percent you’ve lost), the time zone your pot days follow, whether each weigh-in is approved, rejected or still being checked, the pot’s activity feed and your result. They never see your phone number, your birth date, your weight or your weigh-in photos and videos. Anyone with the pot’s invite link sees the members’ display names and photos and whether each of them has paid.

2. Creating and joining a pot

  • A pot has one goal (steps, workouts or weight loss), a stake, a start date, a length of 7–60 days, and a charity picked by the person who creates it.
  • A pot has 2 to 20 members. You join with an invite link from a friend, until the pot starts (midnight at the start of the start date, in the creator’s time zone).
  • Nobody can join a pot after it has started.

3. Paying in

  • Every member pays the same stake, between $10 and $200, plus Won’s flat $2.99 fee — for example, a $50 stake costs $52.99 in total.
  • You pay by card on a secure checkout page at wewon.app, run by Stripe. Won never sees or stores your full card number.
  • You only count as a member once your payment has gone through.

4. When a pot starts

  • If at least 2 members have paid by the start, the pot begins. Anyone who hasn’t paid is removed and owes nothing.
  • If fewer than 2 members have paid, the pot is cancelled and everyone who paid gets a full refund of their stake and the $2.99 fee.

5. Goals and how they’re checked

  • Steps: reach the daily step count on the required number of days each week, read from Apple Health (Health Connect on Android, later).
  • Workouts: log the required number of workouts each week, each at least the minimum length.
  • Weight loss: lose the target percentage of your starting weight by the end date, shown with a start, weekly and final weigh-in (a photo of the scale plus a 3-second video with a fresh code word). Targets are capped at 1% per week and 10% in total.
  • A “day” is your own local calendar day, in the time zone saved when you joined. A week is each 7-day block from the start date; a shorter last week needs a proportional number of days. To hit the goal, every week has to pass.
  • Steps and workouts typed in by hand don’t count. A day you don’t sync counts as zero, so open the app regularly.

6. When a pot ends

  • After the end date there is a 48-hour grace period to finish syncing and do your final weigh-in. Then each member’s result is worked out with the same rules for everyone.
  • Hit the goal: your full stake is refunded to the card you paid with. The $2.99 fee is not refunded. Banks usually show refunds within 5–10 business days.
  • Missed the goal: your stake is donated to the pot’s charity. The fee is not refunded.
  • Your result depends only on you. Other members missing never changes what you get back, and no member ever receives another member’s stake.

7. Donations

Missed stakes are held by Won (in its Stripe account) and recorded as owed to the charity. Won pays charities once a month and keeps the receipts. Running totals — owed and paid — are public on the charities page.

8. Dropping out (withdrawals)

  • Before the start date: you can withdraw in the app and get a full refund, including the $2.99 fee.
  • After the pot has started: there is no refund for leaving. Your stake follows the normal rules — refunded if you hit the goal, donated if you miss it.

9. Fair play

  • Unusual activity is reviewed — for example days over 50,000 steps or sudden 5× jumps. Workouts without heart-rate data may be marked lower-trust.
  • Weigh-ins are checked by software and, when needed, a person. Some are picked at random for a human check. Members can flag a weigh-in or activity that looks wrong.
  • If a review finds cheating, the member can be disqualified from the pot, and their result counts as a missed goal.

10. Disputes

You can appeal a result once, within 48 hours of it being posted, by emailing help@wewon.app (see Support). A person at Won reviews the evidence and replies. That decision is final.

11. Your health comes first

Won is not a medical service. Don’t pick a goal that isn’t safe for you, and talk to a doctor first if you’re unsure. If food or your body feels hard right now, please skip weight pots and contact the National Alliance for Eating Disorders helpline at 1-866-662-1235. In a crisis, call or text 988.
